ARGENTINA TOURS
BUENOS AIRES

(2 Nights / 3 Days)

DAY 01 - BUENOS AIRES
Buenos Aires, is the capital and largest city of Argentina, currently the second-largest metropolitan area in South America, after São Paulo. It is located on the western shore of the estuary of the Río de la Plata, on the southeastern coast of the South American continent. The city of Buenos Aires is not part of Buenos Aires Province, nor is it its capital; rather, it is an autonomous federal district. Greater Buenos Aires is the third-largest conurbation in Latin America, with a population of around 13 million.

After the internal conflicts of the 19th century, Buenos Aires was federalised and removed from Buenos Aires Province in 1880. The city limits were enlarged to include the former towns of Belgrano and Flores, which are both now neighbourhoods of the city. Buenos Aires was originally named after the sanctuary of "Nostra Signora di Bonaria" (Italian for "Our Lady of Bonaria") in Cagliari, Sardinia. In the 1994 constitution the city became autonomous.

Dinner Tango Show.
The word tango refers to both a musical style and the dance performed with it . While in modern Argentina tango is associated mostly with a type of music, the rest of the world sees tango as a dramatic, indeed sexy, dance. Both music and dance were born in the brothels of Buenos Aires just before the beginning of this century. Shunned by respectable society, the tango was considered to be extremely vulgar. Shortly after the end of World War I, the tango was transported to France, where Parisian high society embraced it. As the Parisians took to tango, they modified it into a more refined and sophisticated dance. The Francofied version of tango soon became popular throughout the world. At the same time the lyrics of the tango became central in Argentina. These lyrics, almost always in a melancholy vein, speak of lost love, missed opportunities and shattered lives. The most famous tango singer and composer was Carlos Gardel ; his work began "the Golden Age of Tango," which lasted until the 1950s. In the 1980s due to the enormous success and influence of the stage show "Tango Argentino", interest in tango as a dance has been rekindled around the world.

DAY 02 - BUENOS AIRES
Buffet Breakfast at the hotel.
FD Gaucho Party at Santa Suzana Ranch.
Departure from the hotel towards Cardales to visit Estancia Santa Susana, 90 km away from Buenos Aires. Estancia Santa Susana belongs to the Rossiter family since 1860. Its 1,200 hectares (2,965 acres) are devoted mainly to agriculture, but also to cattle and horse breeding. A couple of years ago the 'estancia' began to receive visitors, and it started to adapt its facilities for that purpose. It has a Main House and some straw-roofed constructions where the dining-room, the 'pulpería' -a traditional general store which was a social gathering point for the gauchos at sunset-, and the grid iron are set.
Upon arrival a welcome drink with 'empanadas' (meat pastries) will be served at the 'pulpería'. Later, you can taste a typical Argentine barbecue (grilled beef, chicken, pork sausages, salads, dessert and coffee) at the dinning-room. As lunch is finished you will enjoy a folklore show with live music, dancing and a tango demonstration, followed by 'cuadreras' and ring races where gauchos show their skills as riders. For those willing to participate in the traditional activities there are horses and 'sulkies' (kind of two-wheeled chart) to go around the ranch. Later on, a snack consisting of home-made pastries and 'mate' (green tea) will be served.

HD City tour.
Half day Buenos Aires city tour, a cosmopolitan city that shows the influence of the great number of immigrants that arrived in the past. The tour starts at the historic Plaza de Mayo square, scenery of resonant political demonstrations. It is surrounded by the Government House, best known as the "Pink House", which is the Government seat; the Cabildo (the old City Hall) and the Cathedral. The Avenida De Mayo, which starts in this square, is an interesting set of buildings of varied styles that reflect the diversity of its inhabitants. Wide avenues and green areas appear constantly trying to slow down the rhythm of this vertiginous city. A sample of this is the 9 de Julio Avenue, with its eight lanes divided by small green squares with old leafy trees and enriched by sculptures and fountains. In the middle of this avenue, in the Plaza de la Republica, the Obelisk arises as a symbol of the city. Southwards, we reach the picturesque and colourful port neighbourhood of La Boca with its famous street, "Caminito", whose architectonic characteristics reflect the culture the European citizens that arrived to these shores at the end of the 19th century, specially Genovese sailors. The visit continues towards San Telmo, one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Buenos Aires, which was also a center for immigrant settlers and still keeps most of its architectonic patrimony untouched: its colonial houses, its cobbled streets. Every Sunday an antique fair is held in Plaza Dorrego. The area has also a lively night-life as there are many tango houses, restaurants and pubs. The visit continues towards the modern district of Puerto Madero; Palermo neighbourhood with its elegant residences framed by wide green areas; reaching finally the district of Recoleta, the most sophisticated neighbourhood in Buenos Aires .
